Recipin Privacy Policy
Recipin turns Pinterest recipe pins into structured recipes you can cook from offline. This page explains exactly what that involves.
There is no account
Recipin has no sign-up, no email, and no password. On first launch your device claims a randomly generated identifier that names your recipe library. It is not derived from your device, your phone number, your advertising ID, or anything else about you, and nothing links it to your identity.
Your recipes live on your device
Saved recipes — titles, ingredients, steps, times, and cached photos — are stored in a database on your phone. The service does not keep a copy of your library. Deleting a recipe removes it from your device. Uninstalling Recipin removes the whole library.
What happens when you import a board
To turn pins into recipes, Recipin's service has to read them. During an import:
- We fetch the board's pins from Pinterest, and fetch the web pages those pins link to.
- We read that content to find the recipe — first from structured recipe markup on the page, and where that is absent, using automated text and image analysis.
- That fetched content is used only while the import is running and is not kept afterwards. We store the resulting recipe, not the source material.
Two things are retained deliberately:
Recipe photos. The photo for each imported recipe is resized, re-compressed, and stored in our storage so your phone can cache it for offline viewing.
A shared extraction cache. For recipes on publicly accessible web pages, the extracted recipe may be kept in a cache keyed by that page's address, so the same public page is not processed repeatedly. This cache contains no user identifier and is not linked to you, your device, or your library. Content from a pin that is not publicly accessible is never placed in it.
If you connect a Pinterest account
Connecting is optional — you can import public boards by pasting a link without connecting anything.
If you do connect, authorization happens in your device's browser on Pinterest's own site. Recipin never sees your Pinterest password. Pinterest gives us an access token, which we store encrypted and use only to read the boards and pins you ask us to import. We request read-only access.
Disconnecting revokes that access with Pinterest and deletes the stored token. Recipes you already imported stay in your library — they are yours.
What we do not do
- No advertising, and no sale or sharing of your data with advertisers or data brokers.
- No third-party analytics or tracking SDKs in the app.
- No selling, republishing, or redistribution of Pinterest content. Every imported recipe keeps a visible link back to its original source and pin.
Operational logs
The service records technical information needed to run and debug imports: timings, counts of how many pins converted, error categories, and the anonymous library identifier described above. These logs do not contain recipe content, page content, or anything identifying you personally.
Children
Recipin is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.
Deleting your data
- Delete individual recipes in the app.
- Disconnect Pinterest to revoke and delete the access token.
- Uninstall the app to remove the entire local library.
- To have anything remaining on our side removed, contact us at the address above.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, the effective date above will change and the updated version will be published at this address.
